Prior to the lockdown, I had never sung in front of my husband
Lockdown was a weird time, as I'm sure you can remember! One bonus of being at home a lot was that it gave me the time to play my guitar and actually learn a song from start to finish. Prior to lockdown, I would sing to myself on and off when my husband was out, as I was too self-conscious to sing even in front of him!
After months of hardly seeing another soul, I posted a video on facebook of me singing a song my day used to sing- Liverpool Lullaby by Cilla Black. Hundreds of people liked it and commented how lovely I sang it, how soothing it was, how I should sing more and sing in public. The link to that video is here...

I genuinely never thought I would ever have the confidence to sing in public. Shortly after I posted the video, a friend (and someone who unknowingly guided me through some rough times and helped build my confidence in myself through running*) messaged me, saying simply, "lose the fear of failure". Such powerful words! And I started thinking, what's the worst that could happen?! It was the start of a beautiful journey that has seen me push myself out of my comfort zone to perform in public, make wonderful friends, form a band, and write my own heartfelt songs.
It’s crazy to look back and see how far I’ve come—from nervously singing songs in my living room to performing my own original songs live across venues all over the South West.
To anyone out there holding back on something they love—take that step. What's the worst could happen? It could change your life for the better.
*He's actually one of three very special people that my song, "She Is One" is written about. I'm sure I'll write a blog post about that at some point!
